Resurrect your little black dress, slap on a pair of mile-high heels and red lipstick; Dink's Restaurant and Ultra Lounge, a swanky new eatery on North Palm Canyon, is bringing the glamour back to old Hollywood’s playground.

The atmosphere: The upscale restaurant, which opened its doors in early October, is the epitome of desert chic, with postmodern décor, retractable walls and an open, airy dining area, complete with private indoor and outdoor VIP cabanas.  Looking to enjoy a balmy desert evening under the stars sipping drinks and catching up with friends? Perfect. Plop down on one of the comfy pillowed couches outside, order up a mojito and listen to the live band jam until the wee hours of the morning. Yes, there’s bottle service, and complimentary robes if you catch a chill. The lounge is only steps away, so you can get up and dance if you feel so inclined -- or buzzed.

The drinks: Oh, my, the drinks!  Signature cocktails are Dink’s forte.  While there is a full bar stocked with your usual combination of domestic and import beers, We suggest indulging in one of the flavored mojitos or martinis. You’ll find exotic flavors including crème brulee, pomegranate, and chocolate raspberry on this menu. Bottoms up!

The food: Imagine a union of cuisines from the cracks and crevices of the globe including the Caribbean, Pan-Asian, Italian, Southwestern and Southern. The menu changes throughout the year to take advantage of seasonal produce, and all dishes are intended for sharing. I’d propose kicking off dinner with a tasty California roll or order of  crispy coconut shrimp, then diving into a juicy steak or tangy marinated salmon and topping it all off with one of five (yep, you read that right, five) flavors of crème brulee. Or maybe devil’s food chocolate cupcakes filled with creamy cherry truffle are more your thing. Yep, we're hungry now, too. The food is delicious, the servers are helpful and the portions are generous.

Hippie-friendly: All you bongo-playing, patchouli-wearing, nag champa-burning environmentally conscious types (or anyone even slightly concerned about sustainable living) will be satisfied with Dink’s use of solar panels on all areas of the roof.  These panels produce enough energy to sustain the restaurant during the winter and feed back to the electrical grid during the summer. Among other measures, Dink’s recycles bottles, cans and plastics and all biodegradable paper products are made from recycled materials. Three cheers for the environment!

Reservations are suggested for parties of six or more and for VIP cabanas.

Time will tell how welcome and comfortable the very diverse gay community is when dining at Dinks.
