"Super 8" (June 10)
In 3D? No (but it will play in IMAX)
What's at stake: The summer's only non-comedy from a major studio that's actually based on an original idea, "Super 8" is writer-director J.J. Abrams' chance to prove he can find success outside of TV ("Lost," "Alias") or movies based on TV ("Star Trek," "Mission: Impossible III").
Chance of success: The mysterious trailers—and Super Bowl teaser—have helped build buzz for this secretive movie Abrams conceived as a tribute to Steven Spielberg's early work (think: "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Jaws" and "E.T.").
