Two years ago, the Swedish horror film “Let the Right One In” caused an international sensation with its story of a preteen boy who befriends the girl next door before discovering she’s a several hundred year old vampire. The movie earned rave reviews and made over $2 million in the U.S.—strong business for a foreign language film. But there was still a large audience unfamiliar with the tale.
Legendary horror studio Hammer Films decided to pursue an English-language remake and “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves came aboard to reimagine a movie many fans didn’t want changed. The surprisingly strong result, “Let Me In,” is a hauntingly beautiful piece of work that deserves attention from “Right One” fans and newcomers alike when it opens Oct. 1.
Metromix spoke with Reeves and his young stars, Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Road”) and Chloë Moretz (“Kick-Ass”) about the unique challenges of horror films and why audiences love a good scary movie.
