Drink of the Week: Jack-o-lantern Martini
served at: Tropicale- Formula:
Muddled fresh ginger
1/2ounce Domaine de Canton Ginger & Cognac Liqueur
1/2 ounce pumpkin puree
4 ounces vodka
Instructions: Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lemon wheel or twist or whipped cream and a candy pumpkin, as pictured.

Visions of pumpkin pie warm from the oven danced in my head as I drank this Jack-o-Lantern Martini ($12) at Tropicale in Palm Springs.
The chilled cocktail is warm all the way down, thanks to a heavy vodka pour. The flavors are bold enough to mask the alcohol well. Pumpkin and its entourage of spices — nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves — lead the sip and a kick of ginger follows.
Pumpkin puree gives this drink a distinct texture, which makes the cocktail a better main event than accompaniment to a meal or dessert. That is, of course, unless you prefer your pie a la mode.
