Hundreds of years ago, original root beer brews contained alcohol.
Now, thanks to Three Olives root beer-flavored vodka, we can put the booze back where it belongs.
Bonus: Tomorrow is National Root Beer Float Day. Celebrate with these two yummy, spiked floatation devices:
Three-O Root Beer Float
2 oz. Three Olives root beer vodka
4 oz. root beer
Float one scoop vanilla ice cream on top.
Root Beer Floatini
1/2 oz. Amaretto liqueur
11/2 oz. Three Olives root beer vodka
Add ingredients to ice-filled shaker. Strain into glass. Float melon-ball size scoop of vanilla ice cream in drink's center.
Love the flirty, tropical flavor of the lychee but not its eyeball-like texture? This Epicurious recipe is for you.
Plus, if you make the lychee puree ahead of time, it's a snap to whip up at parties — and your friends will wonder when you became so fancy.
Lychee Martini
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup water
1 cup drained canned lychees (16- to 20-ounce. can)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
¾ cup vodka
3 tablespoons Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur
Instructions: Heat sugar and water in a saucepan over high heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Pour into a heatproof bowl set in a large bowl of ice and cold water.
Let stand, stirring occasionally, until syrup is cold, about 3 minutes.
Purée lychees with sugar syrup and lemon juice in a blender until smooth, then force through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing hard on solids, then discard.
Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes and add lychee purée, vodka and Cointreau.
Shake and strain into martini glasses.
Tip: Reserve some of the lychee juice from the can, in case the drink is too strong or if you want more lychee flavor. Add to taste.
